Bolton Brickponds, Goldthorpe. This is a pleasant place to fish with plenty of landscaping and picnic areas, with a number of pegs being accessible to disabled anglers (who can fish free, as can OAP's). There is ample car parking and good facilities on site. There are 3 ponds in total and with water approaching 30 ft in places, good sport can still be found in the deep of winter There are some big carp in this water, and on a usual visit you will see a number of the bivvy boys set up for the weekend. It is not a place where you will catch monster nets of fish, but what the water does offer is variety. The ponds holds bream (6lb), pike (25lb), rudd and roach to the pound mark, crucians to over 2lb, some big eels to nearly 5lb and the odd occasional ruffe and chub that are really piling the weight on lately. There is also the occasional tench up to around the 8lb mark. Day tickets are £3.00 or remarkably £13 for the year. No cars on the grass, no live baiting until the 1st of October each year. Groundbait use is restricted to the sensible amounts. Directions - Get to Barnsley and take the A635 towards Doncaster, you will see signs for Goldthorpe and take the B6098 towards there. You then need to turn off right after about a mile and keep going until you spot the ponds and the park.
